Joining and engaging with the community
- Join a church.
- Arrive before the church meeting begins and stay after it ends.
- Practice hospitality with members of your church.
- Ask God for strategic friendship.
Financial and organizational planning
- If possible, set aside funds in your family or pastoral budget for regular meetings with other Christians: Discuss this with your spouse. If possible, budget for this for your spouse as well.
- Schedule regular breakfasts, lunches, or other culturally friendly activities with those who are willing to learn (of the same gender): Depending on the person, you may decide to meet once, indefinitely, or a set number of times (say, five). If you and the person have a common hobby, look for ways to spend it together.
Quality of communication and example
- Ask about their lives: Learn more about their parents, spouse, children, faith, work, relationship with Christ, etc. However, when asking questions, do so in a way that is appropriate for your cultural context (don’t scare them!).
- Tell me about your life.
- Look for opportunities for spiritual conversations: Perhaps you can read the Bible or some other Christian literature together.
- Consider their physical or material needs: Will they benefit from your help?
- Pray with them.
- Invite them to your home or spend time with them in your family circle: Let them see how you live your daily life.
