{"id":15989,"date":"2025-08-10T15:07:43","date_gmt":"2025-08-10T15:07:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/podorozh.org\/?p=15989"},"modified":"2026-01-06T14:33:48","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T12:33:48","slug":"how-to-find-peace-before-the-faces-of-a-terrible-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/podorozh.org\/en\/how-to-find-peace-before-the-faces-of-a-terrible-life\/","title":{"rendered":"How to find peace in the face of terrible adversity?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What happens to our emotions if we truly believe in God&#039;s omnipotent wisdom and goodness during times of brutal persecution?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This question comes to my mind for two reasons. The first is God\u2019s will for our emotions, as revealed in Scripture. The second is what I see in the hearts of God\u2019s people today. Unfortunately, these things don\u2019t always align. One of my goals is to help modern believers experience more of what God desires for our emotions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here is an example I researched recently<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Updated by terrible persecutions?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Revelation chapter 6, John saw \u00abthe souls of those who had been slain for the word of God.\u00bb These are the martyrs for Christ who are in heaven. \u00abAnd they cried out with a loud voice, saying, \u00bbUntil when, O Sovereign Lord, holy and righteous, do you not judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?\u2019\u201d (Rev. 6:10).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since these souls are already in heaven, where \u00abthe spirits of righteous people made perfect\u00bb (Heb. 12:23), we should not be quick to label their cry as sinful. However, God directs their emotions from this sense of urgency to another, deeper experience of the heart.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The martyrs were told to \u00abrest a little longer.\u00bb This word brings emotional peace and renewal. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Greek word <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab&quot;anapau\u014d&quot;\u00bb<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00ab&quot;anapao&quot;).<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Its shades can be felt in the following examples:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00abCome to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest!\u00bb (Matthew 11:28).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00abMy spirit and yours have been refreshed\u00bb (1 Cor.16:18).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00abFor you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the saints\u00bb (Phil. 1:7).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00abRefresh my heart in Christ!\u00bb (Phil. 1:20).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But here\u2019s what\u2019s emotionally striking. They were told about the terrible persecution on earth. They were told to rest and recover \u00abuntil their fellow servants and their brothers who were to be killed as they were were also completed.\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is truly stunning.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>The key to their peace<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let&#039;s pay attention to four points:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are told to rest and recover.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are told that during their rest on earth, people are killed, including by execution (Rev. 20:4).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is revealed to them that these people who are being killed are their &quot;brothers.&quot;.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And they are told that the number of these killings is determined by God himself.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, God expects this. He would not tell these perfected saints to rest if He did not think it possible and right.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The key to their ability to rest lies precisely in the sovereign wisdom and goodness of God, which is hidden in the statement in Revelation 6:11 that there is a certain number of martyrs who are yet to die. \u00abRest a little while longer, until the number of your fellow servants and your brothers who have been killed is completed.\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Deep peace of mind in God&#039;s wisdom and goodness<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This means that a deep trust in God\u2019s sovereign wisdom and goodness radically changes our emotional reactions to terrible events. We are able, in a supernatural way, to find spiritual rest in God even in the midst of terrible trials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This state is not indifference. It is not callousness or lack of compassion. It is not the absence of tears. But it is peace. It is sweet rest in Christ.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The soul that has found peace in Christ,<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I will not leave her, I will not give her to my enemies.<\/span><\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is a deep emotional \u00abcalm\u00bb\u2014a profound peace of mind\u2014even when we know about the horrors of adversity and persecution, including those that affect us personally.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u0429\u043e
